2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2L Petrol · NL05 AEP

This Vauxhall Corsa’s most recent MOT test, conducted on 24 August 2022 at 69,838 miles, confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy under current UK standards, with no defects or advisories recorded. The consistent pass history over the past five years—including a duplicate entry in 2020 that oddly lists both a pass and a fail at the same mileage—suggests no recurring mechanical failures. However, the absence of advisories or defects in any test since 2019 does not preclude underlying issues. The vehicle’s compliance with emissions, brakes, and suspension standards at the last test is reassuring, but the lack of any recorded faults does not imply thorough maintenance beyond the minimum legal requirements. The recorded mileage of 69,838 miles over 21 years—approximately 3,326 miles annually—indicates unusually light usage for a vehicle of this age. The gaps between tests are standard, with annual intervals between 2019 and 2022, but the near-identical mileage in the 2020 pass/fail anomaly suggests either an error in the record or a period of inactivity. Such low mileage could imply prolonged storage, which may accelerate wear on components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and battery health. The lack of mileage progression between 2020 and 2021 (just 1,755 miles in a year) warrants scrutiny of fluid levels, tyre condition, and potential corrosion from static exposure. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of suspension components, particularly the rear suspension bushes and coil springs, which are prone to cracking or degradation even at low mileage. The binding calipers or uneven brake pad wear, if present, would have been flagged in previous tests, but a thorough check of brake discs for corrosion or warping is advisable. Corrosion at wheel arches, sills, or the subframe—common in older Corsas—should be assessed, as should the exhaust system for leaks or structural weakness. The battery, given the irregular usage pattern, may also require testing for capacity. While the vehicle has not failed an MOT, these areas are critical for long-term reliability and should not be overlooked.
