2005 Smart (mcc) City Coupe 0.7L Petrol · OE55 ALO

The 2005 Smart City Coupe presents a stable and improving maintenance trend, culminating in a fully clean MOT pass on 10 February 2026 at 81,423 miles with zero defects recorded. That clean sheet follows a pattern of minor, well-managed wear items rather than escalating mechanical failures. The vehicle has not developed any recurring structural or safety-critical faults across the five-year record. Mileage accumulation tells a story of very light use. Between February 2022 at 68,015 miles and February 2026 at 81,423 miles, the car covered just 13,408 miles across four years, averaging roughly 3,352 miles annually. The increments between consecutive tests hover between 2,900 and 3,400 miles, showing consistent but low demand. No sudden jumps or suspicious gaps appear in the record. For a 21-year-old city car, this is exceptionally low mileage, suggesting prolonged periods of short trips or occasional use rather than sustained daily commuting. The advisory history is sparse and unremarkable. In February 2024 at 75,027 miles, the tester flagged both the nearside front and offside rear tyres worn close to the legal limit and worn on edge, indicating either deferred replacement or possible alignment and suspension bush wear causing uneven tread scrub. The previous February 2022 test at 68,015 miles noted front brake pads wearing thin, a routine consumable item on any vehicle. Both issues appear to have been resolved before subsequent tests, with no reoccurrence. No corrosion, emissions failures, suspension defects, or structural concerns have ever been flagged. A buyer should still inspect the front suspension bushes, ball joints, and tracking geometry in person, given the uneven tyre wear noted in 2024. Check the condition of all brake discs and pads, particularly at the rear, since the city coupe's light weight and stop-start use can lead to surface corrosion on rarely worked components. Examine the underside for any signs of corrosion on the floor pan, sills, and subframe mounts, as long-term standing in a small, unibody vehicle can trap moisture in enclosed sections. The powertrain and exhaust system have never warranted a defect, but a brief road test will confirm smooth clutch operation and gearbox engagement on a car that has likely spent much of its life at low speeds.
