2006 Vauxhall Astra 1.7L Diesel · OU06 HTG

The vehicle presents a mixed mechanical profile based on its DVSA MOT records and usage patterns. Over the years, it has accumulated a substantial mileage of 136,726 miles, which aligns with its age of approximately 20 years. This level of wear is typical for a car of its class, especially when considering the average annual mileage of around 6,836 miles. However, the recurring advisories suggest a pattern of persistent issues that warrant close attention. The suspension components show signs of wear, particularly in the rear, with specific mentions of corroded or worn bushings and pins that could affect handling stability. Brake system concerns are also evident, with multiple alerts about corroded or degraded components that may impact stopping performance. Given these findings, it is advisable to inspect the braking system thoroughly during the test drive, paying close attention to pedal feel and brake fade under load. The mileage history indicates a fairly consistent usage pattern, with no significant gaps between tests, though the overall trend leans toward heavier reliance on the vehicle’s drivetrain and suspension systems. This suggests the car has been driven regularly, which can accelerate wear on critical areas. The absence of any recent failures in the most recent MOT in 2022 provides some reassurance, but the cumulative effect of prior advisories remains a concern. Buyers should be prepared for potential adjustments or repairs related to the identified mechanical risks, particularly if the vehicle has been stored or driven in conditions that exacerbate corrosion or component fatigue. When evaluating the car on the road, focus on the specific areas flagged in the MOT report. Listen for any unusual noises when bumps are encountered, especially in the suspension, and feel for any play in the steering or suspension components. Pay close attention to the braking feel, checking for any sponginess or reduced effectiveness, which could stem from the corroded or degraded brake lines. The front headlights and tyres also require inspection, as the advisories point to issues that could affect visibility and handling. Overall, while the vehicle has a clean record in recent tests, the mechanical history demands a thorough on-site assessment to confirm its current condition.
