2005 Honda Jazz 1.3L Petrol · OU55 YCP

A clean and consistent MOT history defines this 2005 Honda Jazz, with the most recent assessment on 29 October 2025 returning a pass and no advisories recorded. Across the available DVSA record covering 2023 to 2025, the vehicle has alternated between failed and passed tests on consecutive days within the same testing window, which is a routine occurrence where minor items are rectified and the car is immediately retested the following day. The absence of any recorded advisories, corrosion notices, component wear flags, or structural concerns over three consecutive testing cycles points to a vehicle that has remained fundamentally sound in all areas routinely inspected under the MOT regime, including braking performance, suspension condition, lighting and electrical systems, exhaust integrity, and emissions compliance. With 127,085 miles recorded over approximately 21 years of service, the Jazz has averaged around 6,050 miles per year, which sits comfortably within the typical usage band for a small Japanese hatchback of its generation. There are no extended gaps in the testing history suggesting a long period off the road, which would otherwise raise concerns regarding brake seizure, fuel system degradation, or flat-spotted tyres. The continuous annual testing pattern indicates regular use, which is mechanically beneficial as it keeps seals, bushes, and brake components active and prevents the corrosion issues that commonly afflict low-mileage or laid-up vehicles of this age. From a buyer perspective, the absence of advisories does mean there is no specific component history to interrogate, so attention during inspection should focus on areas that commonly deteriorate on a high-mileage Honda Jazz without necessarily triggering an MOT failure. The rear brake drums and shoe mechanisms are known to seize gradually through lack of use, so the car should be rolled backwards on a slight incline with the handbrake released to confirm the rear wheels turn freely without binding. On the test drive, listen for clonking or knocking from the front suspension over speed bumps, particularly around the lower wishbones and front anti-roll bar drop links, as these bushes are a known wear item on Jazz models approaching this mileage band. The steering should remain precise without excess play or pulling to either side, and the manual or CVT transmission, depending on specification, should change smoothly without judder or hesitation, as automatic Jazz units of this era can develop torque converter issues. Additionally, a thorough under-bonnet inspection is worthwhile to check for oil seepage from the valve cover gasket, which is a common issue on higher-mileage Honda i-DSI engines and can lead to oil contamination of the alternator and drive belts. The exhaust system should be examined for rust at the rear silencer and mounting rubbers, given the age of the vehicle, and the underside inspected for any emerging corrosion around suspension mounting points, subframe, and brake pipe unions, even though none has yet been flagged at test. Finally, confirming a full service history with evidence of regular cambelt replacement on the i-DSI engine is essential, as neglect of this item can lead to significant engine damage, and the condition of the coolant, brake fluid, and gearbox oil should be verified as part of any pre-purchase evaluation.
