2007 Honda Jazz 1.3L Petrol · OV07 AWU

The most recent MOT record for this 2007 Honda Jazz shows a pass in June 2022, although this followed a significant failure involving dangerous brake pad wear and major braking imbalances. While the vehicle was deemed roadworthy at that time, the maintenance trend appears reactive rather than preventative. The transition from a dangerous failure regarding brake pad thickness to a pass suggests that critical safety components were addressed, but the remaining advisory indicates that underlying wear in the chassis components was not fully eliminated. Regarding mileage, the vehicle has covered 132,627 miles over its 19-year lifespan, averaging roughly 6,980 miles per annum. This represents a typical usage profile for a small hatchback in the UK, suggesting the vehicle has not been excessively driven but has also not suffered from the detrimental effects of prolonged periods of standing. From a mechanical perspective, this moderate mileage means that while the engine and drivetrain should be in reasonable condition, the buyer should expect age-related degradation in rubber components, suspension bushings, and various seals. A primary concern for a prospective buyer is the advisory regarding the nearside front suspension arm pin or bush. During a test drive, you should listen intently for any knocking, clunking, or creaking noises when navigating speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, as these are classic symptoms of worn suspension bushes. Additionally, monitor the steering for any wandering or pulling to one side, which can result from imprecise geometry caused by bush wear. Given the previous history of brake imbalance and dangerous pad wear, it is also essential to test the braking performance thoroughly. Listen for any squealing or grinding from the rear, check for a pulsating brake pedal which may indicate warped discs, and ensure the parking brake engages firmly and holds the vehicle on an incline without slipping. Beyond the specific MOT defects, the age of the vehicle necessitates a thorough physical inspection of consumables. Examine the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, which can occur even if the tread depth remains sufficient. Check the underside of the vehicle for signs of significant corrosion on the sills, floor pans, or exhaust system. Finally, verify the service history to ensure that time-sensitive maintenance, such as brake fluid replacement and coolant flushes, has been performed, as these fluids degrade chemically over time regardless of the annual mileage recorded.
