2009 Audi A8 6.0L Petrol · OV09 EDF

The most recent MOT test passed on 31 October 2024, showing a stable maintenance trend over the last several years. While the vehicle experienced failures in 2017 and 2018 concerning a tyre cut and a split offside front inner drive shaft CV boot, the subsequent pass history is clean of major defects. The recurring advisory regarding fitted undertrays has been noted in multiple tests since 2020, which suggests they may have been installed to manage previous fluid leaks or to provide additional protection to the underside of the chassis. With 345,291 miles recorded, this Audi A8 has been driven extensively, averaging approximately 20,311 miles per year. This high-mileage usage profile indicates the vehicle has likely been a regular long-distance cruiser rather than a vehicle that has sat idle for long periods. However, such high mileage places significant cumulative stress on the drivetrain, suspension, and various electronic systems. Prospective buyers must account for the fact that components such as the air suspension, turbochargers, and gearbox are likely approaching or have exceeded their typical service life cycles. During your test drive, you should pay particular attention to the integrity of the drivetrain and suspension. Listen for any rhythmic clicking or popping sounds when turning the steering wheel, which could indicate further CV joint wear, and feel for any vibrations through the steering column or floorpan that might suggest worn suspension bushes or damaged drive shafts. Given the advisories regarding undertrays, it is crucial to inspect the engine bay and the underside of the car for any signs of weeping from the engine, gearbox, or cooling system. Any evidence of fresh oil or coolant residue could indicate that the undertrays are currently masking active leaks. Furthermore, inspect the condition of the braking system by checking for any shuddering under heavy deceleration, which may indicate warped brake discs, or pulling to one side, which could suggest binding calipers. Check the tyres for even tread wear across the width; unevenness often points to worn bushings or incorrect alignment. Finally, verify the service history to ensure that all major fluid changes have been performed according to time and mileage intervals, as the sheer volume of mileage means that the quality of lubrication in the engine and transmission is paramount to the vehicle's continued reliability.
