2014 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L Petrol · OY02 ELL

The most recent MOT test conducted on 7 January 2026 resulted in a pass with no defects or advisories recorded. This indicates that, at the time of testing, the vehicle met all minimum legal requirements for roadworthiness. Given the clean nature of the latest certificate, the maintenance trend appears stable, suggesting the vehicle has been kept in a condition that avoids common wear and tear failures. The recorded mileage of 44,428 miles is exceptionally low for a twelve year old vehicle, averaging approximately 3,702 miles per year. While low mileage generally implies less mechanical wear on the engine, gearbox, and drivetrain, it often suggests a pattern of short journeys or extended periods of inactivity. Such usage profiles can be more taxing on certain components than consistent motorway miles, particularly regarding carbon build up in the engine and the degradation of rubber components. Because the MOT history is clean and the mileage is low, the buyer must focus on age related degradation rather than wear related failure. It is critical to inspect the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, as rubber degrades over time regardless of tread depth. Check the brake discs for heavy surface corrosion or evidence of binding calipers, which often occurs when a vehicle stands for long periods. The 12V battery should be tested for health, as infrequent use can lead to premature failure or reduced cranking power. Attention must be paid to the service history to ensure that fluids have been changed based on time intervals rather than mileage alone. Engine oil, brake fluid, and coolant degrade chemically over time and should be replaced according to the manufacturer calendar schedule to prevent internal corrosion or sludge. Verify the presence of stamped service records to confirm that the vehicle has not suffered from neglect during its periods of low usage, and listen for any suspension clunks or stiffness during the test drive that could indicate dried out suspension bushes.
