2007 Volkswagen Crafter CR35 109 LWB 2.5L Heavy oil · PS07 DEC

The Volkswagen Crafter’s most recent MOT test on 2025-04-17 confirms it passed without defects, though the preceding three tests—all within a five-month window—were failures. This clustering of failures, despite no recorded defects, suggests either administrative oversight in scheduling or a pattern of last-minute test attempts rather than genuine mechanical issues. The 2024 and 2022 tests, however, show consistent pass rates, indicating the vehicle has not experienced a sustained decline in roadworthiness. The lack of advisories or repeated faults in the passed tests means no critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or structural integrity were flagged as failing or requiring attention. That said, the three failed tests in quick succession warrant scrutiny of whether the vehicle was driven to the test station only when legally required, rather than for genuine maintenance checks. The recorded mileage of 156,079 miles over nearly 19 years equates to an average of around 8,200 miles annually, which is typical for a commercial or mixed-use vehicle of this age. The most notable gap in the record occurs between the 2024-02-09 pass (153,336 miles) and the 2025-02-12 failure (155,862 miles), a span of 20 months with just 2,526 miles accumulated. This suggests the vehicle was either lightly used or stood idle for an extended period. The rapid mileage jump of 1,137 miles between the 2025-03-28 failure and the 2025-04-17 pass—both within a month—implies the vehicle was driven only when necessary, likely to avoid an MOT failure rather than for regular servicing. This pattern raises questions about whether routine maintenance was neglected during periods of low usage. Given the lack of specific defects in the MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of high-wear components that are not routinely tested. Focus on the suspension system, particularly the rear axle bushes and coil springs, as these are common failure points in vehicles of this age and mileage. The brakes, while not explicitly failed, should be checked for uneven wear, binding calipers, or corrosion on the rear discs—common issues in commercial vans that see varied loads. Structural corrosion, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and sub-frame, must be assessed, as this is often missed in MOT tests but can compromise the vehicle’s safety. Finally, the exhaust system should be inspected for leaks or excessive rust, especially around the catalytic converter and muffler, as these are not always caught during a standard MOT.
