2003 Honda Civic 2.0L Petrol · PY03 JFV

The vehicle currently lacks a valid MOT certificate, as the most recent test occurred on 17 March 2023. With no recorded inspections for over three years, the car sits in a state of unknown roadworthiness. The historical pattern shows a consistent trend of clean passes following initial failures, suggesting that the vehicle was presented for testing, rejected for minor administrative or technical reasons, and rectified immediately before final certification. However, the absence of data since early 2023 means any assessment of its current mechanical condition is purely speculative and requires a fresh inspection to confirm its status. At 144,376 miles over 23 years, the car has covered an average of approximately 6,277 miles per annum, which aligns with typical usage for a vehicle of this vintage. The mileage accumulation remained steady between 2021 and 2023, with roughly 4,000 miles added over that two-year window. This suggests the car was used sparingly rather than subjected to heavy commuter cycles. The lack of test data since March 2023 implies the vehicle may have been stored or taken off the road for an extended period, which often introduces risks related to stale fuel, seized brake calipers, and perished rubber components. A physical inspection must prioritise structural integrity, specifically checking the sills, wheel arches, and subframe mounts for corrosion, as these are common failure points for this generation of Civic. While the MOT history shows no recurring mechanical defects, the long period of inactivity necessitates a thorough check of the braking system for binding or surface rust on the discs. You should also inspect the suspension bushes and coil springs for signs of degradation caused by age and potential environmental exposure during the vehicle's recent dormancy. Confirming the condition of the timing belt and checking for fluid leaks under the engine bay are essential steps before considering this vehicle for regular use.
