1997 BMW 850 5.0L Petrol · R262 FAN

The vehicle presents a stable and consistent roadworthiness profile based on the available MOT data. The most recent test on 8 July 2025 at 98,076 miles resulted in a clean pass with no recorded defects or advisories. This follows a continuous sequence of successful inspections dating back to 2020, suggesting a consistent standard of maintenance and a lack of recurring mechanical or structural failures. The mileage accumulation is notably low for a 1997 model, averaging approximately 3,382 miles per year. The records show a very gradual increase in distance, moving from 94,831 miles in October 2020 to 98,076 miles in July 2025. This low-use pattern indicates the car has likely spent significant periods stationary or has been used strictly for short-distance leisure trips. While this reduces wear on the drivetrain and engine components, such low usage can sometimes lead to degradation in rubber seals, hoses, and suspension bushings due to lack of regular operation. Because the MOT history shows no recorded failures or advisories regarding corrosion, brake binding, or suspension wear, the records suggest a well-kept vehicle. However, the lack of reported issues on a high-value classic like this requires a physical inspection of the chassis for structural rust and a thorough check of all fluid levels and rubber components. Given the low annual mileage, a buyer should specifically examine the condition of the tyres for age-related cracking and check the battery and electrical systems for signs of long-term storage issues.
