1997 BMW 3 Series 1.9L Petrol · R397 AJN

This 1997 BMW 3 Series demonstrates a stable mechanical condition, supported by a clean pass on June 5, 2023, at an unspecified mileage. The absence of advisories or failures across the evaluated test records indicates that previous custodians addressed necessary upkeep without leaving lingering structural or mechanical defects. Because the MOT history provided is limited to just two consecutive passes in 2022 and 2023, the data remains sparse regarding long-term corrosion patterns or chronic component fatigue, yet the immediate roadworthiness status appears sound based on the last recorded inspection. The odometer reading stands at 120,744 miles, which equates to roughly 4,164 miles driven per year over its twenty-nine-year lifespan. This low annual accumulation suggests the vehicle experienced periods of light use or storage, which can sometimes introduce unique preservation challenges for older rubber seals and fuel systems. Specifically, the gap between the February 12, 2022 test and the June 5, 2023 test points to standard annual testing intervals without extended lapses in road legality. Prospective buyers must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the chassis and suspension architecture. E36 generation models are notoriously prone to structural corrosion on the rear trailing arm mounts, jacking points, and sills, areas that escape detection when test records show zero advisories. Rubber suspension bushes, brake lines, and coolant hoses also demand close scrutiny for perishing due to the vehicle's advanced age and low mileage profile. Check the operation of the braking system for any binding calipers or pitted brake discs stemming from intermittent use before finalizing a purchase.
