2013 Vauxhall Astra Energy Cdti 1.7L Heavy oil · RHZ 6021

The Vauxhall Astra Energy CDTi demonstrates a consistent roadworthiness record over the past three MOT cycles, with the most recent test on 16 November 2025 at 178,988 miles resulting in a clean pass—no defects or advisories recorded. This stability suggests the vehicle has been maintained at a baseline standard, though the absence of any warnings means critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or binding calipers have not been explicitly cleared by the tester. The lack of recurring advisories is notable, but it also implies no proactive attention has been given to wear items beyond the MOT’s mandatory checks. The recorded mileage of 178,988 miles over 13 years—approximately 13,768 miles annually—indicates heavy usage, which accelerates wear on high-stress parts such as the drivetrain, suspension, and brake systems. The most significant mileage jump occurred between the 2023 and 2024 tests, where the vehicle covered 14,000 miles in under a year (from 157,990 to 171,965). This rapid accumulation suggests either intensive driving or prolonged periods of neglect between services. The consistent 12-month intervals between MOTs further imply the vehicle has remained in regular use without extended periods of inactivity, which could have exacerbated corrosion or fluid degradation. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of the suspension geometry, particularly the rear trailing arms and control arms, as these are common failure points on this model at high mileages. The diesel particulate filter (DPF) and exhaust emissions system warrant scrutiny, as DPF clogging often goes undetected until it causes drivability issues or fails an MOT. Corrosion checks are essential, especially around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe mounts, where salt ingress over 13 years could compromise structural integrity. Finally, the brake system—discs, pads, and calipers—should be examined for uneven wear or binding, as the MOT tester’s silence on this matter does not guarantee absence of latent problems.
