2006 Ford Transit 2.0L Diesel · RO06 AHE

The most recent MOT test for this 2006 Ford Transit, conducted on 22 March 2022, resulted in a pass with no recorded defects, though it follows a failure just eleven days earlier on 11 March 2022—an unusual sequence that suggests either a temporary administrative oversight or a vehicle that narrowly avoided critical failings. The absence of defects in the final pass indicates the vehicle cleared all mandatory checks, but the rapid turnaround between tests raises questions about whether minor issues were overlooked or corrected between the two dates. Without subsequent tests, there is no evidence of a worsening or improving trend in maintenance, leaving the current roadworthiness status dependent entirely on the final pass. The lack of advisories or recurring faults in either test implies no obvious pattern of neglect, though the abrupt failure-to-pass sequence warrants scrutiny of components prone to sudden deterioration, such as brake systems or suspension elements. Mileage data is entirely absent from this record, which prevents any assessment of usage patterns relative to the vehicle’s age. The gap between the 2022 tests and today’s date—over four years—means no further mileage context exists to evaluate whether the vehicle was driven sparingly, intensively, or not at all during that period. Such a prolonged interval without testing also obscures whether the vehicle has undergone regular servicing or if critical components like timing belts, fuel injectors, or differential fluids may have been neglected. In vehicles of this age, mileage is a critical indicator of wear, and its absence here introduces a significant uncertainty factor. Given the lack of defects in the final pass, the most prudent areas for an in-person inspection would focus on components that often fail without obvious warning signs. The abrupt failure eleven days before the pass suggests a potential issue with brake binding or uneven wear, so the rear brake calipers, pads, and discs should be checked for drag or excessive corrosion. The suspension system, particularly the rear bushes and coil springs, should be examined for dryness or cracking, as these are common failure points in commercial vans of this era. Additionally, the exhaust system—especially at the rear—should be inspected for leaks or structural corrosion, as these can go unnoticed until they affect emissions or structural integrity. Finally, the vehicle’s underbody should be scrutinised for signs of rust penetration, particularly around the sills, wheel arches, and longitudinal members, as this is a frequent cause of later-stage failures in older Ford Transits.
