1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8L Petrol · RRN 5

The Jaguar E-Type presents as roadworthy with a stable maintenance trend, evidenced by the most recent test on 14 September 2022 at 8,984 miles which returned a pass with no defects recorded. Across the available history the vehicle has shown no advisories or mechanical faults, indicating the structure and major systems have remained sound under minimal use. The only blemish is an administrative failure on 3 January 2017 at 8,566 miles, reversed two days later on 5 January 2017 with a clean pass at the same mileage, suggesting a paperwork or presentation issue rather than a mechanical defect. Recorded mileage spans 7,337 miles in September 2014 to 8,984 miles by September 2022, an accumulation of just 1,647 miles over eight years or roughly 206 miles annually. The car is 35 years old with 8,984 total miles, equating to about 257 miles per year from new. A five-year gap separates the 2017 and 2022 tests, with no entries between, and the 2015 to 2017 interval shows only 436 miles added. Such low and sporadic use means the MOT record is sparse but clean, offering little evidence of wear yet equally little proof of regular exercise. A buyer should still commission an in-person inspection of suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers, as prolonged standing on low mileage vehicles commonly induces perished rubber and binding brakes unseen by a pass result. Structural corrosion around chassis rails and sills warrants close examination despite no advisories, given the age and likely damp storage. The drivetrain and exhaust should be run to temperature to confirm no latent emissions or sealing faults from infrequent operation. Previous keepers clearly prioritised storage over routine road use, with the clean test sheet implying careful custody rather than active maintenance. The 2017 dual-entry anomaly hints at lax test preparation, but the absence of recurring defects points to a fundamentally sound example requiring only standing-related checks before purchase.
