2005 Honda XR 650 R3 0.6L Petrol · RX55 OYY

The vehicle passed its most recent MOT on 5 June 2026 with no defects recorded. The overall maintenance trend appears exceptionally stable, as the historical records from 2009 through to 2026 show a consistent pattern of passes without any recorded failures or advisories. While this indicates a history of regulatory compliance, the lack of recorded advisories on a vehicle of this age may suggest that the inspections have been infrequent or that the vehicle has not been subjected to the rigours of heavy daily use. The recorded mileage of 3,066 miles is remarkably low for a 21-year-old vehicle, representing an average annual usage of approximately 146 miles. While this implies very little mechanical wear on the engine internals, piston rings, and drivetrain, such low mileage often indicates long periods of storage or strictly seasonal use. From a mechanical perspective, this shifts the primary concern from wear-based degradation to age-related deterioration, where components fail due to time and environmental exposure rather than friction and load. Given the clean MOT history and low usage, a prospective buyer must conduct a rigorous physical inspection focused on rubber components and seals. You should closely examine the tyres for sidewall cracking, perishing, or flat spotting, as aged rubber loses its elasticity and grip regardless of tread depth. Furthermore, inspect all suspension gaiters, fuel lines, and various rubber hoses for signs of brittleness or cracking, as these are prone to failure after years of standing. Check for any signs of fluid weeping from seals or gaskets, which can occur when components are not regularly lubricated by moving parts. It is also essential to assess the condition of all consumables and the electrical system. Verify the age and condition of the brake fluid, engine oil, and coolant, as these fluids degrade chemically over time and should be replaced to prevent internal corrosion or hydraulic issues. Check the battery health and the integrity of the electrical connections, as long periods of inactivity can lead to sulphation or terminal corrosion. Finally, inspect the chassis, exhaust system, and fasteners for surface corrosion or seizing, and cross-reference the service book stamps to ensure that maintenance has been carried out on a calendar-based schedule to compensate for the low mileage.
