2017 BMW X3 3.0L Diesel · SF17 ABP

This BMW X3 has maintained a consistent MOT pass record with no recorded defects across all five tests, including the most recent examination on 12 March 2026 at 69,481 miles. The absence of advisories or failings suggests the vehicle has undergone regular servicing and passed all mandatory roadworthiness checks without incident. However, the lack of defects does not preclude the need for a thorough independent inspection, particularly given the vehicle’s age and mileage. The most recent test was conducted just four months ago, which is within the standard MOT validity period, though the next due date—12 September 2026—is approaching rapidly. The mileage progression indicates a steady usage pattern, averaging approximately 7,700 miles annually, which is typical for a vehicle of this age. There are no significant gaps or spikes in mileage between tests, with the largest interval—12 months—occurring between the January 2023 (49,319 miles) and December 2021 (38,084 miles) tests. This regularity implies consistent driving habits rather than prolonged neglect or rapid wear. However, the absence of service records beyond MOT results means critical maintenance—such as timing belt checks, suspension servicing, or differential fluid changes—cannot be confirmed from this data alone. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an inspection of high-wear components that are not routinely tested under MOT standards. Focus on the suspension system, particularly the condition of coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers, as these are prone to degradation over time and may not always trigger a fail unless severely compromised. The braking system, including caliper binding, disc thickness, and rotor warpage, should also be scrutinised, especially if the vehicle has been driven in heavy or mixed conditions. Additionally, examine the underbody for corrosion, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and exhaust system, as BMW X3 models are susceptible to rust in these areas. Finally, verify the integrity of the exhaust system for leaks or structural weaknesses, as emissions-related faults are not always captured in MOT tests unless they directly affect roadworthiness.
