2002 Mazda B Series 2.5L Diesel · SJ52 FYC

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness status, though the history reveals a pattern of reactive rather than preventative maintenance. The most recent test in February 2024 at 89,445 miles passed without advisories, indicating that the mechanical failures identified in previous years were addressed. However, the ten-year gap between the 2014 and 2024 tests suggests the vehicle sat stationary for long periods or operated with extreme irregularity during that decade. The mileage profile is exceptionally low for a 24-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 3,727 miles per year. There is a significant data gap between April 2014 (81,967 miles) and February 2024 during which the car covered only 7,478 miles. Such low usage frequency often leads to the degradation of rubber components and seals due to perishation, which is consistent with the failures noted regarding CV joint gaiters and shock absorber bushes in the earlier records of the vehicle's life. A physical inspection must focus on the corrosion-related issues that previously plagued this Mazda. The 2013 failure highlighted excessively corroded fuel and leaking brake pipes, while the 2014 test showed multiple suspension failures including the drag link end ball and anti-roll bar linkage. Although the 2024 record notes heavy undersealing, a buyer should specifically inspect the integrity of the brake lines and the chassis for structural rust that may have developed beneath the coating. Furthermore, check the condition of the front CV joints and suspension bushings, as these components are prone to seizing or cracking when a vehicle remains unused for extended intervals.
