2012 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0L Diesel · SK12 DHC

The Vauxhall Insignia has maintained a consistent roadworthiness record over the past four MOT cycles, with no defects or advisories recorded in any of the tests conducted between May 2022 and June 2025. The most recent inspection, just over a year ago at 121,971 miles, confirms the vehicle passed without fail, suggesting a stable maintenance pattern where critical systems—brakes, suspension, exhaust, and structural integrity—have not been compromised. While this absence of issues is reassuring, the lack of advisories also means there is no historical documentation of preemptive repairs or wear patterns, leaving the buyer to rely solely on visual and functional verification of components that typically degrade over this mileage. The recorded mileage of 121,971 miles over approximately 14 years equates to an average of around 8,700 miles per annum, which is typical for a vehicle of this age. The MOT intervals are evenly spaced, with no extended gaps or abrupt mileage jumps between tests. For instance, the vehicle progressed from 96,638 miles in May 2022 to 115,063 miles in May 2024—a steady increase of roughly 9,400 miles over two years—before reaching the current total. This consistency suggests the vehicle has not been subjected to heavy or erratic use, though it also implies that routine servicing may not have been strictly adhered to, as no service records are visible in the MOT data. Given the lack of advisories or defects, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on high-wear components that are not routinely tested under MOT standards. The suspension, particularly the rear coil springs and bushes, should be examined for uneven sagging or excessive play, as these are common failure points in vehicles of this age and mileage. Brake discs and calipers, while not flagged in past tests, warrant close inspection for lateral run-out or binding, especially if the vehicle has experienced inconsistent braking performance. Corrosion in wheel arches, sills, and subframes should also be assessed, as this is a critical but often overlooked risk in older models exposed to UK road conditions. Finally, the exhaust system should be checked for leaks or excessive rust, as a failing catalytic converter or oxygen sensor could have gone undetected without a recent emissions test.
