2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.0L Diesel · SO54 CXW

The vehicle remains roadworthy but the maintenance history shows a worsening trend regarding structural and brake system corrosion. In the most recent test in September 2024 at 121,080 miles, the tester identified a corroded offside rear brake pipe and corroded sill covers. While the vehicle passed, the persistence of brake pipe corrosion across multiple years, dating back to 2020 and 2023, indicates that the protective coatings are failing despite previous attempts at undersealing. At 121,080 miles over 22 years, this Suzuki has averaged a low usage of approximately 5,500 miles per year. The mileage data shows relatively consistent intervals, with a jump of 2,941 miles between August 2022 and August 2023, followed by a 4,266-mile increase between 2023 and 2024. This low annual mileage often correlates with the degradation of rubber components through age, which aligns with the recurring issues found with bushes and corrosion noted in the record. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the sills and underbody mounting points. The record repeatedly mentions corrosion in the integral body structure and suspension components, which are currently hidden by heavy underseal. This masking can conceal advanced structural rot that has not yet reached failure threshold. Furthermore, the offside rear brake pipe requires close inspection for thinning metal walls, as the presence of grease mentioned in the tester notes suggests an attempt to hide active oxidation rather than replace the failing component.
