2006 KTM 525 SX 0.5L Petrol · SP55 AGU

The 2006 KTM 525 SX presents a stable roadworthiness record over the past three MOT tests, with no defects recorded in any of the examinations. The most recent test on 2025-06-28, just over a year ago, confirms the vehicle passed without advisories or failures, suggesting no immediate mechanical or structural concerns at that time. The absence of recurring faults across the 2023 and 2022 tests—both of which also passed cleanly—indicates a well-maintained or low-mileage history, at least in terms of the core safety-critical components assessed by the MOT. However, the lack of mileage data beyond the 2023 test (11,195 miles) means long-term wear trends, such as suspension degradation or brake system fatigue, cannot be reliably gauged from the MOT alone. The mileage data reveals a significant anomaly: the 2022 test at just 442 miles suggests either a prolonged period of disuse or an error in recording. Given the vehicle’s age, this low figure is unusual and raises questions about its operational history. If the 442-mile reading is accurate, the subsequent jump to 11,195 miles by May 2023 implies either a sudden resurgence in use or a backdated mileage adjustment. Without further context, it’s impossible to confirm whether the odometer reflects genuine mileage or has been manipulated. The most recent MOT, passed in June 2025, provides no mileage figure, leaving a critical gap in understanding how the vehicle has been used since 2023. For a buyer, the primary focus should be on components not routinely covered by MOT tests but prone to long-term wear in off-road or dual-sport machines. Given the lack of recorded faults, structural integrity—particularly the frame, subframe, and suspension mounts—should be scrutinised for fatigue cracks or corrosion, especially if the bike has seen heavy use or exposure to moisture. The braking system, including calipers, pads, and hydraulic lines, warrants close inspection, as off-road use can accelerate wear beyond what MOT tests detect. Additionally, the exhaust system’s condition, including clamps and mounting points, should be checked for corrosion or loose fittings, as these are common failure points in older motorcycles. The absence of advisories does not preclude hidden issues, so a pre-purchase inspection by a specialist familiar with KTM’s 525 SX platform is strongly advised.
