2005 Toyota Hilux 3.0L Diesel · SP55 AJU

The vehicle presents a broadly stable maintenance trend, with the most recent DVSA test on 26 February 2025 at 102,442 miles returning a pass and no defects recorded. Prior examinations show consistent clean results, indicating the Hilux has not accumulated mechanical advisories across the observed period. The sole anomaly appears on 3 October 2022, when a test at 87,114 miles logged a failure yet recorded no defects, immediately followed by a pass at 87,115 miles the same day. This pattern suggests administrative or documentation irregularity rather than a latent mechanical fault. Mileage data reveals light use for a 21-year-old vehicle. From the 15 October 2021 test at 83,888 miles to the 16 October 2023 test at 90,482 miles, the Hilux covered only 6,594 miles across two years, averaging roughly 3,300 miles annually. A further 11,960 miles were added by February 2025, lifting the overall average to about 4,878 miles per year. The record shows no rapid accumulation bursts nor concerning gaps beyond the sparse testing cadence; only five entries span 2021 to 2025. Such low annual mileage implies prolonged standing periods, which often mask corrosion and perished rubber components not captured in a static test. Despite the absence of recorded defects, a buyer should physically inspect structural integrity and typical wear zones before purchase. The 2005 Hilux chassis is prone to corrosion at rear crossmembers, suspension mounting points, and brake lines; testers may not flag early surface rust. Examine suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake discs for degradation from intermittent use. Check exhaust emissions and binding calipers, as stagnant vehicles suffer seized handbrake mechanisms and flat-spotted tyres. The clean MOT history does not exempt the buyer from verifying these items in person. The repeated passes with no advisories suggest previous owners maintained basic statutory compliance, though the unexplained 2022 failure without defects raises a question over record accuracy. Prospective buyers should obtain service history to corroborate the odometer and confirm routine fluid changes.
