2002 Volkswagen Transporter 2.5L Diesel · SV02 BBJ

The 2002 Volkswagen Transporter presents a stable roadworthiness profile, with the most recent MOT on 2025-06-19 at 136,797 miles recording a pass and no defects. A consistent pattern of successful tests since 2021-04-17 at 132,805 miles confirms no emerging mechanical issues. The absence of advisories or failures across this six-year span suggests the vehicle has been maintained to a standard meeting legal requirements, with no indication of worsening conditions. Mileage progression shows a low annual average of 5,700 miles, reflecting minimal usage over 24 years. The MOT records confirm regular testing, though gaps between 2021 and 2022, and 2022 and 2023, suggest the vehicle may have been parked for extended periods. The slow mileage increase—1,359 miles between 2021 and 2022, then 1,044 miles by 2023—aligns with this pattern. Such low usage can lead to component degradation, including suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers, even if not flagged in MOT reports. A buyer should inspect for signs of corrosion, particularly in the underbody and chassis, as prolonged inactivity increases rust risk. Suspension components, including bushes and shock absorbers, may require closer scrutiny for stiffness or wear. Brake systems should be checked for binding or uneven pad wear, as infrequent use can cause caliper seizure. The exhaust system merits attention for leaks or rust, and the vehicle’s structural integrity should be verified, as older vans are prone to corrosion in load-bearing areas. No MOT failures or advisories suggest the current state is acceptable, but low mileage necessitates a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
