1928 Essex Super 6 2.0L Petrol · SV 6023

This Essex Super 6 has maintained a consistent MOT pass status through five consecutive tests, with the most recent inspection on 4th December 2021 at 33,532 miles. The absence of any defects or advisories across all records suggests no recurring mechanical failures, though the final test occurred nearly five years ago—well beyond the standard three-year MOT interval. Without recent testing, there is no confirmation of current compliance with modern emissions standards, suspension integrity, or structural soundness. The lack of advisories in prior tests implies no history of deferred repairs, but the extended period since the last inspection introduces uncertainty over wear in critical areas like coil springs, steering linkages, and exhaust system components. The recorded mileage of 33,532 miles over nearly a decade—averaging just 342 miles per year—indicates exceptionally light usage for a vehicle of this vintage. The mileage remained static between the 2018 and 2019 tests, suggesting prolonged periods of inactivity, which could accelerate deterioration in rubber components (e.g., suspension bushes, drive belts) and fluid degradation (brakes, steering). The consistency of the mileage figure also raises questions about whether the odometer has been tampered with, though no discrepancies are visible in the MOT records. Such low mileage does not inherently guarantee reliability, particularly for a pre-war vehicle where corrosion, electrical failures, and worn-out mechanical parts are more likely to manifest unpredictably. Given the absence of MOT advisories, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the suspension system, focusing on coil spring condition, bush wear, and binding calipers. The brakes—though never flagged—should be tested for uneven pad thickness, disc warping, and hydraulic efficiency, especially if the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary. Structural corrosion, particularly around the chassis rails, wheel arches, and exhaust mounts, demands thorough examination, as does the electrical system, where wiring degradation is common in older vehicles. The engine bay should be scrutinised for leaks, belt tension, and the integrity of the carburettor or fuel system, while the exhaust should be checked for leaks or excessive rust that could compromise structural integrity. Given the vehicle’s age, no inspection can guarantee long-term reliability, but these areas represent the highest risk factors.
