1999 Mazda 323 1.8L Petrol · T276 FFX

The 1999 Mazda 323 demonstrates stable roadworthiness, with no defects recorded in its last five consecutive MOT tests, including the most recent 2023-11-14 inspection at 191,629 miles. All prior tests from 2019 to 2022 also passed without issues, indicating consistent maintenance and no emerging mechanical concerns. The vehicle’s compliance with safety standards remains unchallenged, though its age and high mileage necessitate scrutiny of components beyond basic MOT checks. The mileage progression aligns with an average of 7,097 miles annually, reflecting typical usage for a 27-year-old vehicle. A notable 18-month gap between the 2019-05-10 test (173,402 miles) and 2020-11-04 (180,220 miles) suggests reduced activity during that period, potentially limiting wear on consumables like tyres or brake pads. Subsequent annual tests show steady mileage increases, with no evidence of rapid deterioration or excessive strain on critical systems. The absence of recurring faults in the record implies the previous owner prioritized routine upkeep. A buyer should conduct a detailed inspection of the vehicle’s suspension, focusing on aged bushes and coil springs, which may exhibit fatigue despite no MOT failures. The exhaust system and body corrosion should also be assessed, as these often develop gradually and evade MOT scrutiny. While the MOT history shows no immediate risks, the car’s advanced age and high mileage mean hidden issues in the drivetrain or chassis could emerge post-purchase. A pre-purchase survey by a qualified mechanic is strongly advised to confirm the absence of latent structural or mechanical faults.
