2008 Volkswagen Touran 2.0L Diesel · V8 TVN

The Volkswagen Touran’s most recent MOT test on 7 May 2026 at 85,205 miles confirms it remains roadworthy, but the history reveals a concerning pattern of deferred maintenance. The absence of defects in the latest inspection is a positive sign, though the persistent tyre issues and the 2025 CV joint boot advisory suggest long-term neglect of critical components. The near-side front CV joint boot deterioration—flagged in May 2025—demands immediate attention, as failed boots can expose the joint to debris and accelerate its failure, risking a sudden loss of drive. Meanwhile, the recurring tyre faults, including edge wear and perishing, indicate either inconsistent tyre rotations, underinflation, or alignment issues over multiple tests. The lack of advisories on suspension, brakes, or corrosion in the most recent test is reassuring, but the cumulative wear on tyres and the CV joint warrant thorough verification. The mileage progression of roughly 4,700 miles annually is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, which could imply extended periods of inactivity or light use. Between the 2022 and 2023 tests, the odometer only advanced by 974 miles over a year, suggesting the car may have stood unused for significant periods. This stagnation could accelerate wear on fluids, seals, and rubber components, particularly in the CV joint and tyres. Conversely, the steady accumulation of mileage since 2024—covering 3,227 miles in a year—does not compensate for the earlier inactivity, as the tyres and CV joint were already compromised by then. A buyer should prioritise an inspection of the near-side front CV joint boot and its condition, as the 2025 advisory indicates it has likely deteriorated further. The rear tyres, noted as cracked or perishing in 2024, should be examined for structural integrity, as degraded rubber poses a sudden failure risk. Front tyre wear patterns must be checked for alignment or underinflation, while the suspension bushes and coil springs should be scrutinised for excessive play or corrosion, especially given the vehicle’s age. The brakes, though not flagged in recent tests, should be tested for binding calipers or uneven pad wear, as older vehicles often develop hidden brake issues. Structural corrosion at wheel arches, sills, and the subframe is also critical, as it can compromise the vehicle’s load-bearing capacity.
