The emergence of corrosion under the body, sills, and suspension components in the December 2025 test marks a shift in the vehicle's roadworthiness profile, following several years of relatively clean passes. While the most recent result was a pass, these advisories indicate the onset of structural oxidation that will require monitoring to ensure the vehicle remains viable. This follows a period of stability between 2022 and 2024 where no defects were recorded. With 140,918 miles recorded over two decades, the vehicle has averaged approximately 7,046 miles per year. This consistent usage pattern suggests a steady accumulation of wear on high-stress drivetrain components and suspension bushings. At this mileage, the mechanical focus shifts toward the longevity of rubber mounts and the integrity of the chassis, as the vehicle has avoided the risks associated with prolonged standing but has undergone significant operational cycles. A physical inspection should focus heavily on the underside, specifically the sills and suspension mounting points, to determine the extent of the corrosion noted in the 2025 record. Use a torch to check for flaking metal or deep pitting in the chassis rails and suspension arms. During a test drive, listen for knocks or clunks over uneven surfaces, which could indicate that the corrosion mentioned in the MOT has compromised the integrity of the suspension bushes or linkages. Attention must also be paid to the braking system, given the 2021 failure for imbalanced front brakes and the associated advisory for fluctuating service brake performance. While these were resolved for the subsequent pass, the buyer should feel for any steering pull or judder under heavy braking. A spongy pedal or inconsistent deceleration may suggest that the previous imbalance was a symptom of a deeper issue with the calipers or hydraulic system that warrants further investigation.
