2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L Petrol · VE63 VZT

Recurring issues with tyre tread depth and suspension component wear characterise the mechanical history of this Ford Fiesta, despite a relatively clean sequence of passes in recent years. The most recent test on 20 January 2026 resulted in a pass, but included an advisory for a nearside front tyre being worn close to the legal limit and worn on the edge. This follows a period of stability between 2023 and 2025 where no defects were recorded, contrasting with the more problematic testing cycles seen in 2021 and 2022. The 2022 inspection was particularly significant, involving a dangerous failure for both front tyres being below the 1.6mm legal limit, alongside major failures for a nearside front anti-roll bar linkage ball joint and an offside front track rod end ball joint. The vehicle has covered 94,283 miles over its twelve-year lifespan, which equates to an average annual accumulation of approximately 7,857 miles. This usage pattern is consistent with typical light-to-moderate annual mileage for a vehicle of this age. From a mechanical perspective, this level of usage suggests that while the drivetrain and engine components may not have been subjected to extreme high-mileage stress, the vehicle has been in regular enough service to necessitate the replacement of consumables such as tyres and suspension linkages. The mileage does not indicate long periods of stationary use, which helps mitigate concerns regarding seized components or fluid degradation due to inactivity. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the suspension and steering systems during a test drive, given the history of worn ball joints and track rod ends. Listen for any knocking or clunking noises when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps, which could indicate further wear in the anti-roll bar linkages or suspension arms. Additionally, pay close attention to the steering response; any pulling to one side or a wandering sensation through the steering wheel may suggest that the track rod ends or steering geometry require further attention. The advisory regarding the nearside front tyre being worn on the edge also warrants an inspection of the wheel alignment to ensure the vehicle is not causing premature tyre wear through incorrect camber or toe settings. Further investigation into the shock absorbers is advised, following advisories in 2021 regarding light oil misting on both front units. While these were not recorded as failures in subsequent tests, the presence of oil misting can be a precursor to more significant damping failure. On a test drive, observe the vehicle's stability during cornering and its ability to settle quickly after hitting a bump; excessive bouncing or a floaty sensation may indicate that the dampers are no longer providing adequate control. Finally, note the 2022 advisory regarding a corroded offside rear coil spring, and while no subsequent advisory was recorded for this specific item, it is prudent to visually inspect the rear spring for any signs of significant structural corrosion or fractures.
