2017 Mazda Bongo 2.0L Petrol · VF05 FMX

The vehicle currently holds a roadworthy status, as evidenced by the clean pass recorded in November 2025 at 168,864 miles. This represents an improving maintenance trend compared to the previous year, where multiple suspension and brake-related defects were identified. While the vehicle shows signs of age, the lack of defects in the most recent test suggests that the previous owner addressed the emerging mechanical wear items flagged in earlier inspections. At 168,864 miles, this twenty-year-old Bongo averages approximately 8,000 miles per year, which aligns with typical usage for a commercial of this age. The data shows consistent usage patterns, with roughly 16,000 miles covered between October 2023 and October 2024, and another 6,400 miles covered since then. This consistency suggests the vehicle is used regularly rather than sitting for long periods, which often helps prevent rubber components and seals from seizing or perishing due to neglect. A physical inspection should focus on the front and rear suspension geometry, as the October 2024 test flagged wear on the anti-roll bar linkage pins and a front ball joint. Although these were cleared, recurring issues in these areas often indicate broader degradation of bushings and joints throughout. The buyer should also verify the front brake pad thickness specifically, as the record noted thin pads in 2024 which would require replacement shortly after that test to maintain safety. Given the age and type of the vehicle, a thorough check for corrosion on the sills and structural members is essential. While the MOT history does not explicitly report structural failures, older Mazda vans are prone to hidden rust that may not always be visible until it becomes significant. Inspect the underside for active bubbling or surface corrosion to ensure the structural integrity of the chassis remains sound despite the high mileage.
