2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4L Petrol · VF55 VAE

The vehicle most recently presented for MOT on 13 August 2025 and achieved a clean pass with no defects or advisories recorded, which is a positive indicator of its present roadworthiness. The prior three tests at 2024-09-06, 2023-08-23, and 2022-09-08 also returned pass results with no defects recorded, demonstrating a consistently stable maintenance trajectory over the most recent four-year cycle. The single failed entry dated 7 September 2022 is immediately followed by a pass the next day, strongly suggesting the failure was minor and remedied quickly rather than indicative of a deeper mechanical or structural concern. Overall, the trend is unambiguously stable with no emerging pattern of recurring defects or deterioration in pass quality. With 60,710 miles accumulated over twenty years, the Fiesta has covered an average of roughly 3,036 miles annually, which is notably low for a vehicle of this age and points towards either genuine light use or extended periods of inactivity. Low annual mileage of this nature reduces wear on high-cycle components such as the clutch, drivetrain, and friction braking surfaces, but it concurrently elevates the risk of deterioration caused by standing. Moisture accumulation in the engine and gearbox oils, oxidation of brake fluid beyond its calendar life, and moisture ingress into the braking hydraulic system are all realistic concerns. Equally, prolonged standing frequently leads to binding brake calipers, corrosion on the braking surfaces, and flat-spots or sidewall cracking on older tyres, all of which an MOT would not necessarily fully reveal without the vehicle being driven aggressively beforehand. For a prospective buyer, a thorough physical inspection is strongly recommended despite the clean MOT history. The tyres warrant close scrutiny for age-related perishing or cracking on the sidewalls, particularly given the low mileage; a tyre older than six years from its DOT date stamp should be viewed with caution regardless of tread depth. The braking system should be examined for seized calipers and pitted or corroded brake discs, which can manifest as pulling to one side, a spongy pedal, or shudder under braking. A test drive should incorporate firm braking from speed to confirm straight-line stability and pedal feel, along with low-speed manoeuvring to expose any binding. The exhaust system should be inspected for corrosion at the mounting points and joints, as twenty-year-old exhaust components are prone to failure irrespective of mileage. Under-bonnet checks should include verification of recent oil and filter changes through the service book, alongside confirmation of when the brake fluid, coolant, and ancillary drive belts were last renewed, as these are calendar-based services that an MOT does not validate. The 12V battery should be load-tested, as a battery of this age is likely approaching the end of its service life and a weak unit can mask electrical faults during testing. Finally, the cooling system should be checked for evidence of leaks from the radiator, water pump, and hoses, and the suspension should be examined for perished bushes, weakened coil springs, and tired top mounts, listening for any clonks or knocks over uneven surfaces during the road test. These age-related inspections are essential to complement the encouraging MOT record and ensure the vehicle remains sound beyond its next annual test.
