2004 Ford Transit 2.0L Diesel · WD04 LLV

The most recent MOT test recorded on 27 November 2024 resulted in a failure, indicating a significant decline in the vehicle's structural condition. While the vehicle maintained a period of clean passes between 2019 and 2023, the recent failures regarding a fractured leaf spring and excessive corrosion in the rear suspension mounting areas suggest a worsening trend of structural degradation. This follows a historical pattern of severe corrosion, as evidenced by the dangerous failures recorded in 2018 concerning the front suspension mountings and sills, suggesting that chassis integrity is a persistent and critical issue for this specific vehicle. The recorded mileage for this vehicle is currently unknown, which precludes a definitive analysis of its annual usage rates or mechanical wear relative to its age. Without a verifiable mileage history, it is impossible to determine if the vehicle has been subject to heavy commercial duty or prolonged periods of inactivity. A prospective buyer must prioritize the verification of the odometer reading against previous service records to identify any significant gaps or anomalies that could indicate clocking or excessive wear on the drivetrain and engine components. Given the history of structural failure, a rigorous physical inspection of the chassis is mandatory. You must examine the rear suspension spring mountings and hangers for evidence of poor-quality weld repairs or surface-level patches that may hide deeper corrosion. During a test drive, listen for metallic clunks or knocks from the rear axle area, which may indicate failing bushes or improperly seated leaf springs. Additionally, inspect the front sills and wing mountings to ensure the dangerous corrosion noted in 2018 was permanently rectified rather than temporarily patched, as these areas are vital for the vehicle's overall stability. Beyond the structural concerns, the age of this 2004 model necessitates a thorough check of all time-sensitive components. Inspect the tyre sidewalls for perishing or hairline cracking, as rubber degrades regardless of tread depth. Check the brake discs for heavy surface corrosion and feel for any brake shudder or binding calipers during low-speed maneuvers, which often occurs if a vehicle has been stationary for an extended period. Finally, verify the condition of the 12V battery and ensure that engine oil and coolant have been changed according to a calendar-based schedule rather than mileage alone to prevent internal engine sludge or cooling system failure.
