Recurring issues with front suspension components and steering rack integrity define the mechanical profile of this vehicle, which most recently passed its MOT on 23 January 2026. The record shows a persistent pattern of wear regarding the front lower suspension arm bushes and steering rack gaiters, with these specific defects appearing across multiple tests in 2025 and 2026. While the vehicle has moved from a dangerous failure regarding brake pad thickness in early 2025 to a pass in its latest inspection, the continued presence of advisories for worn suspension bushes and damaged gaiters suggests ongoing degradation of these steering and suspension linkages. The vehicle has covered 58,054 miles over its 19-year lifespan, representing an average annual usage of approximately 3,055 miles. This low annual mileage is significantly below typical UK averages and indicates a pattern of infrequent use. Mechanically, such low usage can lead to specific issues, such as the perishing of rubber components like the steering rack gaiters and tyre sidewalls noted in previous years, as well as the potential for components to seize or degrade due to extended periods of inactivity rather than heavy mechanical wear. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the front suspension and steering assembly during a test drive. The repeated advisories for worn front lower suspension arm bushes mean the vehicle may exhibit knocking or clunking sounds when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps. Additionally, the recorded damage to the steering rack gaiters, while currently classified as a minor defect, could eventually allow grit and moisture to enter the steering rack mechanism. Listen for any irregular feedback through the steering wheel or a wandering sensation that might indicate the steering geometry is being affected by the worn bushes or the condition of the rack. Further scrutiny is required regarding the history of corrosion and tyre condition. Although the major failure for a corroded Macpherson strut was recorded in May 2022, previous advisories for corrosion on the front suspension arms suggest that the structural integrity of these components is a recurring point of interest. During a test drive, check for any pulling to one side or vibrations through the pedal and steering wheel. Given the history of tyres being recorded as worn on the edges or perishing, a physical inspection of the current tread depth and sidewall integrity is essential to ensure they are not approaching the legal limit or showing signs of age-related cracking.
