2003 Skoda Fabia 1.9L Diesel · WU03 AWY

The 2003 Skoda Fabia’s most recent MOT on 2024-06-12 at 163,062 miles resulted in a failure, though no defects were recorded. This follows a pattern of repeated failures and passes at similar mileages, including a 2023-08-08 failure and pass on the same day at 161,850 miles, and a 2022-06-09 pass and failure at 160,326 miles. The absence of recorded defects in these tests suggests either technical inconsistencies in the MOT process or potential issues that were not flagged. The vehicle’s roadworthiness appears unstable, with no clear resolution of underlying problems despite multiple assessments. The mileage of 163,062 miles over 23 years equates to an average of 7,090 miles annually, aligning with typical usage for its age. No significant gaps or spikes in mileage are evident, indicating consistent operation rather than prolonged inactivity. However, the frequency of MOT tests—every 12 months or less—suggests the vehicle may not have been driven extensively, potentially leading to component degradation from standing rather than wear from use. The lack of defects in passing tests contrasts with the repeated failures, raising questions about the reliability of the assessments. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the braking system, as recurring MOT failures without recorded issues may hint at undetected faults such as binding calipers, worn brake discs, or inconsistent pad wear. Suspension components, including coil springs and bushes, should also be checked for fatigue, given the car’s age. Structural integrity and corrosion, particularly in the exhaust system or underbody, warrant scrutiny. The absence of recorded defects in passing tests does not guarantee mechanical soundness, and a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified technician is strongly advised.
