2003 Daewoo Matiz 1.0L Petrol · WX03 YCM

The most recent MOT test on 2023-11-14 confirms the vehicle passed with no recorded defects, though it follows an unusual pattern of two consecutive failures just five weeks prior at 95,966 miles. This suggests the tester may have overlooked critical issues during those October 2023 tests, as no defects were logged despite the failures. The trend over the past three years remains erratic rather than stable, with alternating pass/fail results at roughly annual intervals. The lack of advisories or recurring fault codes in the passed tests implies no systematic mechanical issues were formally documented, though this does not preclude undiagnosed wear or hidden failures. The recorded mileage of 96,458 miles over nearly 23 years—approximately 4,194 miles annually—indicates unusually light usage for a vehicle of this age. There are no gaps in the MOT history that suggest prolonged neglect, but the low mileage could also reflect extended periods of inactivity, which may have allowed corrosion or suspension degradation to develop despite minimal mechanical stress. The consistent annual testing interval suggests at least basic compliance with legal requirements, though the repeated failures without documented defects raise questions about the thoroughness of those inspections. Given the lack of formal fault records, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the suspension components, particularly the rear axle and coil springs, as these are common failure points in older Daewoo Matiz models. The repeated failures without defects imply potential issues with brake binding, worn suspension bushes, or corrosion in critical joints, which may not have been detected during the MOT process. Additionally, the exhaust system and structural underbody should be scrutinised for rust, as prolonged low-mileage storage can accelerate corrosion in vulnerable areas. Tyre condition, despite no MOT mention, warrants immediate verification, as the failures in 2021 and 2022 could indicate prior tread-related issues.
