2006 Volkswagen Transporter 1.8L Petrol · WX06 FBZ

The Volkswagen Transporter’s most recent MOT test on 17 July 2024—just under two years ago—confirms it passed with no defects recorded, though the immediate preceding test on 13 June 2023 resulted in a failure without any faults logged. This anomaly suggests either a rare administrative oversight or a vehicle that has otherwise maintained a clean record, as no recurring issues or advisories appear in the available data. The trend since 2021 shows consistent pass rates, implying the vehicle has not experienced persistent mechanical failures. However, the lack of advisories or defects in the 2023 failure entry is unusual, as even minor issues are typically noted in the system. The recorded mileage of 69,171 miles over nearly 20 years—approximately 3,459 miles annually—indicates unusually light usage for a vehicle of this age. The gap between tests in 2023 (a mere nine days between failure and retest) stands out, though this may reflect a quick resolution of an unrecorded minor issue. The gradual mileage progression from 64,436 miles in June 2021 to 69,171 miles today suggests the vehicle has spent extended periods stationary, which could accelerate wear on fluids, seals, and suspension components if not properly maintained during storage. No rapid mileage spikes are evident, which might otherwise raise concerns about aggressive driving or deferred servicing. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of suspension components—particularly coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers—due to the vehicle’s age and low mileage, which may mask hidden wear. The brakes, though not flagged in tests, warrant close examination for uneven wear, binding calipers, or corrosion on discs and pads, especially if the vehicle has been stored for prolonged periods. Structural integrity should also be assessed, focusing on floorpan corrosion, wheel arches, and suspension mounts, as rust can develop even in low-mileage vehicles exposed to moisture. Finally, fluid levels (brake, coolant, power steering) and condition should be checked, as stagnation can lead to contamination or degradation over time.
