2001 Honda CBR600F 0.6L Petrol · X561 BBW

A faultless MOT record across four consecutive tests from 2022 through 2025 establishes this CBR600F as a mechanically compliant machine on the roadworthiness register, with no advisories, minor defects, or failures recorded at any point. A clean sheet on a 25-year-old motorcycle is particularly noteworthy given the typical age-related issues that begin to surface on chassis components, exhaust systems, and lighting at this stage of life. The absence of even advisory items suggests the bike has not been flagged for the usual suspects of an older sports machine, such as deteriorating suspension linkages, corroded exhaust mountings, or fading brake components. While MOT testing on motorcycles is structurally less comprehensive than that applied to cars, the consistency of clean passes still indicates no obvious administrative barriers to ongoing road use. An accumulated mileage of 25,631 miles over approximately 25 years equates to a mere 1,025 miles per year on average, placing this Honda firmly in low-mileage territory for its age. Such a restrained annual figure strongly suggests extended periods of storage or seasonal use rather than regular riding, which carries its own mechanical considerations. Long standing time on a motorcycle can lead to dried seals in the fork and shock assemblies, internal corrosion within the fuel tank and carburettors, oxidation of electrical connectors, and stiffening of brake caliper pistons. Conversely, the relatively low odometer reading means the engine, transmission, and drivetrain components have likely experienced minimal mechanical wear, reducing the probability of internal engine degradation or clutch wear. The four MOT tests cluster at roughly annual intervals with no significant gaps in the testing record, implying the bike has remained on the road throughout this period rather than being declared SORN for prolonged stretches. A prospective buyer should approach this CBR600F with particular attention to the symptoms of long-term storage rather than high-mileage wear, as the test history provides no specific component defects to focus on. During a physical inspection, check for any signs of fluid weeping from the fork seals, as dried and cracked seals commonly present oil traces on the stanchions once the bike is returned to regular use. Inspect the brake calipers for seized pistons, which on a stored bike may have corroded internally and cause uneven pad wear or a spongy lever feel. Examine the inside of the fuel tank through the filler cap for rust or varnish deposits, listen for fuelling irregularities on a running engine which may suggest carburettor jets blocked by stale fuel residue, and verify that all electrical functions including indicators, headlight, and horn respond promptly, as oxidation of multi-pin connectors is a common storage-related fault. On a test ride, pay close attention to the behaviour of the front end, feeling for any knocking or roughness through the handlebars over uneven surfaces which could indicate degraded headstock bearings or top yoke bearings that have stiffened from disuse. Listen for any metallic clunks from the suspension linkages on compression over bumps, as worn or seized linkage bearings are a known wear point on older CBR chassis. Apply the brakes firmly from speed to check for pulling to either side or a wooden lever feel, both of which could indicate corroded caliper bores or perished flexible hoses beneath the visible bodywork. Finally, allow the engine to reach full operating temperature and listen for any irregular ticking, smoking from the exhaust, or rough idle behaviour, as seals and valve train components that have rested for extended periods often reveal their condition only once the engine is placed under load.
