2017 Ford KA 1.2L Petrol · XX02 ALL

A faultless MOT sequence across the most recent five consecutive tests, culminating in a pass on 2 December 2025 with no advisories or defects recorded, demonstrates an unbroken record of roadworthiness for this Ford Ka. Every entry from 2021 through 2025 returned a clean pass, with no recorded advisories relating to brake condition, tyre wear, suspension integrity, exhaust emissions, or corrosion. The absence of any flagged items even at advisory level suggests the vehicle has consistently met minimum safety and environmental standards without borderline component readings, which for a nine-year-old car is a notably strong outcome. The defining mechanical story here is one of sustained compliance rather than deterioration, and the latest test simply reinforces that trend. With 23,276 miles recorded against a 2017 manufacture date, this Ka has covered approximately 2,586 miles annually, which is markedly low for the class and age. Such modest accumulation typically points to short urban journeys, light second-car use, or extended periods of standing rather than sustained motorway commuting. Mechanically, low mileage of this nature reduces wear on major drivetrain and suspension components but can introduce its own considerations around components that suffer from underuse rather than wear. Rubber-based items such as suspension bushes, driveshaft gaiters, and brake seals can deteriorate through age and stagnation rather than mileage, and brake discs and pads can develop surface corrosion from infrequent use. The consistent year-on-year testing pattern, with no missed annual intervals, indicates the vehicle has remained on the road and in use throughout its life, which is reassuring and limits the risk associated with prolonged lay-up. For a prospective buyer, the clean MOT record allows inspection priorities to focus on age-related wear rather than chasing down specific historic defects. Given the low annual mileage, particular attention should be paid to the brake system on a test drive: any grinding, binding, or judder under light pedal pressure may indicate corroded discs or seized caliper slides from underuse. The suspension should be assessed over uneven road surfaces for knocking, clonking, or excessive body roll, which would point to perished bushes or weakened coil springs given the car's age. Steering should feel precise without play or clonking through the column at full lock, and the tyres, while not flagged on test, warrant a close visual check for flat spotting or sidewall cracking consistent with a vehicle that has stood for periods. Under the bonnet, inspect for any signs of oil misting around the cam cover or sump gasket, areas commonly affected on older Ford Ka engines, and verify that coolant hoses remain supple rather than hardened. Exhaust condition should be physically examined, as a nine-year-old Ka can suffer from corrosion at the rear silencer and mounting brackets even when emissions tests pass cleanly. On the road, listen for any timing chain rattle on cold start, which is a known concern on the 1.2 Duratec unit fitted to this generation, and confirm that the clutch engages smoothly without slipping or judder. A thorough inspection of the underbody for any surface corrosion, particularly around the suspension subframe mounting points and brake pipe runs, is advisable given the vehicle's age, even though no such issues have yet surfaced on test.
