2001 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L Petrol · Y826 BEC

The vehicle currently holds a clean bill of health, with the most recent MOT on 23 April 2024 resulting in a pass with no recorded defects. This outcome, following a similarly clear pass on 27 April 2023, indicates a stable and positive maintenance trend. The absence of advisories during these examinations suggests that critical safety systems, including the braking and steering components, have been well-managed in the immediate past. The recorded mileage of 93,250 over a 25-year lifespan averages out to approximately 3,730 miles per annum, which is significantly lower than the national average for a vehicle of this age. The consistency between the 2023 and 2024 tests confirms that the car has remained in active use rather than suffering from prolonged periods of inactivity, which often leads to seized calipers or perished rubber seals. This low-mileage profile suggests the vehicle has likely served as a secondary car or experienced light usage patterns, though the mechanical condition remains the primary indicator of its current state. Prospective buyers should focus their physical inspection on the structural integrity of the chassis and subframes, as 25-year-old Volkswagen Golf models are susceptible to corrosion in the sills and floor pans. While the recent MOT history is clean, surface rust may be developing in hidden areas not easily visible during a standard test. Check the condition of the suspension bushes and coil springs, as these rubber and metal components deteriorate with age regardless of the low mileage covered. Verify the operation of the cooling system and check for signs of oil leaks around the engine block, as these are common points of failure for this generation of vehicle that may not always be captured during a routine MOT inspection.
