2005 Land Rover Freelander 2.0L Diesel · YF54 XRM

The Land Rover Freelander currently meets roadworthiness requirements, having secured a DVSA pass on 1 August 2025 at 146,320 miles with no defects logged. The maintenance trend stays stable across the documented period, as the tests of July 2021, July 2022, August 2023 and August 2025 all returned clean results. A failure recorded on 31 July 2025 at 146,319 miles carried no listed defects, and the subsequent pass one day later signals a clerical or procedural anomaly rather than mechanical decline. Mileage data shows the vehicle has drifted into near-dormancy despite its 21-year lifespan. The odometer read 144,774 miles at the 22 July 2021 examination and crept to 145,516 miles by 22 July 2022, then 146,261 miles at the 2 August 2023 test. From August 2023 to August 2025 the recorded distance increased by only 59 miles, confirming long stationary intervals. Previous owners clearly favoured storage over routine running, leaving the sparse clean ledger to reflect statutory compliance rather than active wear cycles. A physical appraisal must target parts vulnerable to stagnation on an older 4x4. The tester flagged nothing, yet prolonged standing fosters corrosion across chassis rails and suspension mounts, hardened suspension bushes, and binding brake calipers from seized slides. Inspect coil springs for snapped coils, brake discs for surface pitting, and exhaust hangers for rot. Tyres may exhibit age cracking even with legal tread. The absence of recurring advisories through five consecutive tests implies custodians addressed minimum test criteria but omitted proactive overhaul. Given the Freelander's architecture and elapsed years, a specialist inspection of structural integrity and drivetrain seals remains warranted before purchase.
