2012 BMW X3 3.0L Diesel · YH12 ABK

The 2012 BMW X3 presents a stable roadworthiness profile, with the most recent MOT on 2025-12-06 at 89,142 miles recording a pass and no defects. The prior three annual tests from 2022 to 2024 also passed without issues, suggesting consistent maintenance. However, a failure on 2023-12-06 at 73,491 miles—despite no recorded defects—indicates a potential anomaly, possibly linked to procedural errors or minor non-compliances that were subsequently resolved. The absence of structural, brake, or emission failures in recent tests implies the vehicle has been well-maintained, though the 2023 failure warrants scrutiny. Mileage progression aligns with the vehicle’s 14-year lifespan, averaging ~6,367 miles annually. Notably, the jump from 79,362 miles (2024) to 89,142 miles (2025) reflects a 10,000-mile increase in 12 months, exceeding the historical average. This rapid accumulation could accelerate wear on suspension components, brake discs, and drivetrain elements. The MOT intervals—approximately 12 months apart—suggest regular checks, but the sparse data between 2022 and 2023 (a 7,840-mile gap) may obscure intermediate issues. A buyer should prioritize inspecting suspension bushes, coil springs, and binding calipers, as these are common wear points in older BMWs. Brake discs and corrosion around wheel arches or underbody panels should also be checked, given the vehicle’s age. While no critical defects appear in recent records, the 2023 failure—though unexplained—highlights the need for a thorough pre-purchase inspection to confirm the absence of unresolved mechanical or structural concerns.
