2016 MINI Cooper 1.5L Petrol · YJ65 ACC

The 2016 MINI Cooper’s most recent MOT test on 2025-08-29 confirms it remains roadworthy, with no defects recorded at 57,058 miles. This marks a stable pattern over the past four tests, all passing without fail, though the duplicate entry in November 2022—where the vehicle was tested twice on the same date—suggests an administrative anomaly rather than a mechanical issue. The absence of advisories or recurring faults implies the vehicle has been maintained consistently, though the lack of defects does not preclude hidden wear in components like suspension bushes or coil springs, which often fail without pre-warning. Buyers should verify these areas in person, as their degradation typically accelerates beyond 100,000 miles, a threshold this vehicle has not yet reached. The mileage progression of roughly 5,700 miles annually is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, suggesting either minimal use or prolonged periods of inactivity. The gap between the 2022 and 2023 tests—just 10 months—followed by a 15-month interval before the 2024 test, could indicate periods where the vehicle was stored rather than driven. While this reduces wear on high-mileage components, it may also mean fluids like coolant, brake fluid, and differential oil have not been refreshed as frequently as recommended. The consistent low mileage also raises questions about whether routine services—such as timing belt checks (if applicable) or cabin air filter replacements—were performed on schedule. Given the clean MOT history, the most critical in-person inspections should focus on suspension integrity, particularly the condition of rear suspension bushes and coil springs, which are prone to fatigue over 10 years. The absence of brake-related advisories in prior tests does not guarantee current performance; buyers should test for binding calipers, uneven wear on discs, or excessive pedal travel. Structural corrosion, especially around wheel arches and sills, warrants close scrutiny, as rust can compromise wheel bearing housings or subframe rigidity. Finally, the engine bay should be inspected for leaks or degraded hoses, as prolonged storage can accelerate rubber degradation in components like the radiator or power steering lines.
