2006 Volvo FH 12.8L Heavy oil · YN06 CDX

The most recent MOT recorded for this vehicle was a pass on 10 January 2022, with no defects or advisories noted. Looking at the broader history from 2018 onwards, the maintenance trend appears exceptionally stable. Aside from a single failure in early 2020 which was rectified within five days, the vehicle has consistently met the required standards without any recorded recurring issues. This suggests a consistent approach to compliance, though the lack of recorded advisories may simply reflect the limited frequency of testing or the nature of the inspections. The recorded mileage of 58,904 miles is notably low for a vehicle of this age, representing an annual average of approximately 2,945 miles. While low mileage generally implies reduced wear on the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, it carries specific mechanical risks associated with infrequent use. Vehicles that spend long periods stationary are prone to different types of degradation than high-mileage units, particularly regarding the settling of fluids, the drying out of seals, and the potential for component seizure. Given the clean MOT history and low usage profile, a prospective buyer should shift focus from wear-and-tear components to age-related degradation. It is essential to inspect the tyres for signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, as rubber compounds degrade over time even if tread depth remains high. You should also check for brake disc corrosion or binding calipers, which frequently occur when a vehicle is not driven regularly enough to clear debris and prevent oxidation. During a test drive, pay close attention to the suspension for any clunks or knocks that may indicate perished bushes or dried-out grease in the steering and suspension linkages. Furthermore, you must verify that the vehicle has been serviced on a calendar basis rather than strictly by mileage. Fluids such as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid can degrade chemically or absorb moisture over time, regardless of distance travelled. Inspect all rubber hoses and drive belts for brittleness or cracking, and check the 12V battery health, as long periods of standing can lead to deep discharge and reduced capacity. Finally, conduct a thorough visual inspection of the chassis and structural elements to ensure that any surface corrosion caused by inactivity has not compromised the vehicle's integrity.
