The most recent MOT test conducted on 5 May 2023 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects or advisories. Based on the available documentation, the maintenance trend appears stable; however, the absence of a continuous historical record makes it difficult to establish a long-term pattern of preventative maintenance. While the clean pass indicates the vehicle met the minimum safety standards at the time of testing, the lack of prior data means we cannot confirm if the vehicle has been subject to consistent upkeep or if it has only recently been brought back into a roadworthy condition. The recorded mileage of 1,733 miles is exceptionally low for a vehicle that is 22 years old, representing an average annual usage of approximately 79 miles. This pattern of extremely infrequent use suggests the vehicle has been stored for long periods or used only for very short, occasional trips. Mechanically, this means that while traditional wear-and-tear components like the engine internals, gearbox, and suspension bushes may show very little physical attrition, the vehicle is highly susceptible to the negative effects of stagnation. Low mileage does not equate to high mechanical health in older vehicles, as many components degrade based on time rather than distance travelled. A prospective buyer must conduct a rigorous physical inspection focusing on age-related degradation rather than mileage-related wear. First, examine the tyres thoroughly for signs of perishing, sidewall cracking, or flat spotting caused by long periods of standing. Even with deep tread, aged rubber can lose its grip and become brittle, posing a significant safety risk. Inspect the brake system for signs of corrosion on the discs and potential binding or seized calipers, which are common when a vehicle sits idle. During a test drive, listen for any unusual noises from the suspension and feel for any brake shudder or a spongy pedal, which could indicate air in the system or degraded brake fluid. Furthermore, pay close attention to all fluid-related components and seals. Long-term standing often leads to the drying out and shrinking of rubber seals, which can result in sudden oil or coolant leaks once the vehicle is put back into regular service. Check the engine bay for any evidence of weeping from gaskets or hoses. It is also essential to verify the age and condition of the battery and to check for any signs of fuel degradation or moisture contamination in the tank. Given the age and usage profile, a full service involving the replacement of all essential fluids and filters, regardless of mileage, is strongly recommended to ensure long-term reliability and to mitigate the risks of calendar-based degradation.
