2016 Vauxhall Insignia 1.6L Diesel · YV16 RAM

The vehicle passed its most recent MOT on 13 July 2026, but the overall maintenance trend is concerning. While the car has consistently passed its tests, there is a persistent and recurring pattern of tyre wear advisories spanning several years, alongside a newly recorded oil leak. This suggests a reactive approach to maintenance rather than a proactive one, where defects are noted by the inspector but not necessarily rectified by the owner before the next annual test. With a recorded mileage of 65,525 miles over approximately ten years, the vehicle has averaged roughly 6,552 miles per year. This is considered typical for its age and suggests a moderate usage profile. While the drivetrain and engine components have not been subjected to extreme high-mileage wear, the relatively low annual distance means that rubber components and fluids may be more susceptible to age-related degradation than wear-related failure. The most significant point of concern is the chronic tyre wear, specifically the repeated mentions of wear on the inner and outer edges of both the front and rear tyres. This is a classic symptom of incorrect wheel alignment or worn suspension bushes and steering rack components. During a test drive, the buyer should listen for any clunking or knocking sounds from the front suspension and check for any steering drift or instability. Given that three tyres are currently flagged as being close to the legal limit, a full set of replacements and a professional four-wheel laser alignment should be factored into the purchase cost. Additionally, the recent advisory regarding a front oil leak requires a thorough physical inspection. The buyer should examine the engine bay for fresh seepage around the rocker cover, oil filter housing, or sump. The MOT history also shows a recurring trend of thinning brake pads on both the front and rear axles. It is essential to verify if these have been replaced recently; otherwise, the buyer should inspect the brake discs for significant lipping or corrosion. A soft brake pedal or any shuddering under braking during the test drive would indicate that a full brake service and fluid flush are urgently required.
