2002 Land Rover Defender 2.5L Diesel · YX02 ADV

The vehicle presents a high level of roadworthiness, maintaining a remarkably stable maintenance trend. The most recent inspection conducted on 10 November 2025 at 127,446 miles passed with no recorded defects or advisories. This reflects a clean record across the last five annual tests since 2021, suggesting the vehicle has been maintained to a standard that avoids the common mechanical and structural failures typically associated with this age and model. The mileage profile is notably low for a 24-year-old Defender, averaging approximately 5,310 miles per year. Between September 2022 at 112,560 miles and October 2024 at 117,774 miles, the vehicle covered only 5,214 miles, indicating consistent but light usage. The subsequent interval of 9,672 miles in the final year shows a slight increase. While low mileage reduces wear on the drivetrain and engine components, it can sometimes lead to degradation of rubber-based parts or brake seals if the vehicle sits stationary for extended periods. Despite the clean MOT history, a buyer must perform a physical inspection of the structural integrity of the chassis and bulkhead. Land Rover Defenders of this era are prone to hidden corrosion that may not always trigger an immediate MOT failure until it becomes structural. Focus specifically on the rear crossmember, spring mounts, and the area around the steering box for signs of rust. Additionally, inspect the suspension bushes and bushings for cracking, as low-mileage vehicles often suffer from age-related perish regardless of the distance driven.
