2003 Kawasaki ZX-6R 0.6L Petrol · YX03 LBZ

The Kawasaki ZX-6R presents a stable and clean roadworthiness record over the past three years, with the most recent MOT in April 2025 at 10,094 miles passing without any defects. This consistency suggests the bike has been well-maintained within the testing framework, though the absence of advisories or minor issues could also indicate either meticulous upkeep or, less likely, minimal usage masking potential wear. The lack of recurring faults—such as suspension wear, brake binding, or fluid leaks—implies no immediate mechanical red flags, though the short interval between tests (just under two years) may have limited exposure to more gradual degradation. The mileage accumulation is unusually low for a 23-year-old motorcycle, averaging just 439 miles per year. Between the May 2022 test (9,896 miles) and the August 2023 test (9,996 miles), only 100 miles were added over 15 months, followed by another 98 miles to reach 10,094 by April 2025. This stagnation could reflect either storage for extended periods or very light use, both of which may have contributed to reduced wear on consumables. However, it also raises questions about the condition of components typically stressed by regular riding, such as tyres, chain, and suspension seals. Given the sparse MOT history, a buyer should prioritise a thorough pre-purchase inspection, particularly focusing on areas not routinely checked in standard tests. The chain and sprocket should be examined for wear, stretch, or lubrication—critical given the low mileage may have allowed corrosion or dryness to develop. Tyre condition, including sidewall cracks and tread depth, is vital, as the bike’s limited use could mask age-related deterioration. Suspension components, such as fork seals and rear shock bushings, should be checked for leaks or stiffness, while brake pads and discs must be inspected for uneven wear or corrosion, despite no MOT flags. Structural integrity, including frame cracks or rust in high-stress areas, should also be verified, as the bike’s age and potential storage history could have accelerated hidden corrosion. The absence of defects in the MOT record does not eliminate the need for due diligence, especially given the bike’s age and atypical mileage pattern. A pre-purchase mechanical check by a specialist is strongly advised to confirm the absence of deferred maintenance or latent issues.
