2012 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L Petrol · YY61 FWO

This Volkswagen Golf has maintained a clean MOT history with no recorded defects across three consecutive tests, most recently passing on 4 July 2024 at 110,182 miles. The absence of advisories or failures suggests the vehicle has been subjected to consistent, if not rigorous, servicing, though the lack of specific test notes means critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or binding calipers cannot be confirmed as having been inspected beyond basic MOT standards. The most recent test occurred just over two years ago, which, while within the legal MOT cycle, means some high-wear items—such as brake discs, tyres, or exhaust systems—may now require closer scrutiny. The trend remains stable, but the prolonged gap since the last test introduces a degree of uncertainty over deferred maintenance. The recorded mileage of 110,182 miles over 14 years equates to approximately 7,870 miles annually, a rate that aligns with typical usage for this vehicle’s age. There are no abrupt mileage jumps or prolonged periods of inactivity between tests, which would otherwise raise concerns about neglect or storage-related issues. The interval between the 2023 (99,848 miles) and 2024 (110,182 miles) tests spans 12 months, suggesting the vehicle was driven consistently during that period. However, the absence of a service history means potential wear on less visible parts—such as drive shafts, transfer cases (if equipped), or internal suspension components—cannot be ruled out without further evidence. Given the lack of MOT advisories, a buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of the suspension system, particularly the condition of rear wheel bearings, which often fail silently and are not routinely tested. The brakes, though not flagged, should be assessed for uneven wear or binding calipers, especially if the vehicle has been driven hard or in mixed conditions. Tyre tread depth and lateral wear patterns warrant immediate attention, as the 2023 test’s clean pass suggests no recent tread checks—failing twice on this alone would indicate basic upkeep was overlooked. Structural integrity, particularly around wheel arches and sills, should also be examined for corrosion, as this model is prone to rust progression over time. A pre-purchase diagnostic focusing on these areas will provide clarity on whether the vehicle’s roadworthiness extends beyond the MOT’s superficial standards.
