2024 Omoda E5

The February 2026 Omoda & Jaecoo UK safety recall R/2026/013 (campaign TUB-2601.022.01) covers the Omoda E5: market feedback found a few limited instances of an improperly locked driveshaft nut, which may cause wheel vibration and abnormal noise and the wheel detaching while driving. Dealers inspect the driveshaft nut locking condition and carry out corrective work free of charge where non-conformity is found. UK registers list E5s built from late 2023 into 2026. A loose wheel at speed is a loss-of-control risk, so this is safety-critical: buyers should confirm by VIN that the inspection was completed and recorded, as coverage depends on the exact build date.

The Omoda E5's 61kWh battery is limited to a maximum DC charging rate of 80kW, so even the most powerful public rapid chargers cannot charge it faster; Omoda quotes 30-80% in 28 minutes, and a full charge takes 3-4 hours on an 11kW AC wallbox or 8-11 hours on a 7kW home supply. UK reviewers found this among the slowest charging speeds in class - rivals such as the Hyundai Kona Electric manage around 102kW and the Renault Scenic E-Tech 130-150kW - which adds time to longer motorway journeys. It is a hardware limitation with no fix, so buyers who regularly rely on public rapid charging should factor longer stops into trip planning.

On every Omoda E5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but once either is connected the native system closes completely - including the on-screen climate controls. To alter the temperature or fan speed the driver has to exit smartphone mirroring, then go back into it to resume music or navigation. The touchscreen's submenus are clunky too, so turning off lane-keep assist or other driver-assistance alerts means working through several menu layers while driving. It is a software ergonomics fault rather than a hardware failure, present on 2024 launch cars and unchanged through 2026; there is no hardware fix, though dealer infotainment updates may sharpen menu response.

The E5's motor regeneration cuts in quite strongly the moment you lift off the accelerator, so holding a steady cruising speed on A-roads and motorways takes more concentration than it should. There are no steering-wheel paddles or gear-selector shortcuts to change the regeneration strength, and the touchscreen menu for adjusting it is not easy to find. Eco mode softens the transition between acceleration and regeneration, but the eager default behaviour remains. This is a calibration characteristic rather than a breakdown, so there is no repair cost - just a period of adjustment for the driver.

Official WLTP range is 257 miles, but UK road testing shows a clear shortfall once temperatures fall. Auto Express recorded around 3.8 miles per kWh in cool weather - a real-world range of just over 230 miles - and Green Car Guide's winter test averaged 220 miles at 3.5 miles per kWh. Comfort trim has no heat pump (that is a Noble-only option), so running the cabin heater in winter draws straight from the battery and cuts range further, while motorway cruising lowers efficiency still more. This is not a repairable fault, but used buyers should expect roughly 220-230 miles in cool mixed conditions and plan extra rapid-charging stops on longer journeys.
