Volkswagen Polo S 60 1.2L Other · BAZ 4050

The Volkswagen Polo’s most recent MOT test on 2023-03-09—just 3 years and 4 months ago—confirms the vehicle passed without defects, though it follows an immediate failure the week prior at 156,305 miles. This suggests a brief but unnecessary retest rather than a sustained mechanical issue, as no recurring faults were recorded across the three available tests. The 2022 and 2023 passes at 148,605 and 156,404 miles respectively indicate stable roadworthiness over the observed period, though the lack of advisories or defects in any test means no wear patterns or recurring problems are documented. The absence of emissions or structural advisories implies the vehicle has not undergone significant modifications or neglect. Mileage data is insufficient to establish a clear usage pattern, as the 2022-2023 gap covers 7,800 miles in roughly 14 months—an average of around 560 miles per month. The 2023 retest at nearly identical mileage (156,404 vs. 156,305) suggests the vehicle was tested within days of the failure, likely due to a minor oversight rather than active mileage accumulation. Without earlier tests, it’s impossible to determine whether this is typical usage or an anomaly, but the lack of excessive mileage jumps or prolonged inactivity is notable. Given the sparse record, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of high-wear components not covered by the MOT, such as suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake caliper binding—common issues that may not always trigger a fail but can degrade over time. The 2023 failure, though without recorded defects, warrants scrutiny of the braking system, particularly rear calipers or master cylinder, as binding brakes are often intermittent. Structural integrity should also be checked, especially around wheel arches and sills, where corrosion could develop without immediate MOT consequences. Tyre condition, though not flagged, should be verified, as the absence of tread advisories in prior tests might indicate inconsistent maintenance.
