1989 Jaguar XJS 5.3L Petrol · G183 COY

The Jaguar XJS has maintained a consistent MOT pass status across all recorded tests, with no defects or advisories noted in the most recent examination on 2026-02-11 at 69,839 miles. This suggests a stable roadworthiness trend over the past five years, though the lack of any recorded issues does not preclude underlying wear or deferred maintenance. The final pass date is now just five months old, which is acceptable for a vehicle of this age, though the next MOT is due shortly. The absence of advisories or minor faults in any test implies the tester did not identify any immediate safety or emissions concerns at the time of inspection. The recorded mileage of 69,839 miles over a vehicle age of 37 years—approximately 1,888 miles annually—indicates exceptionally light usage. The mileage increment between tests is minimal: just 431 miles between the 2024 and 2026 tests, and 158 miles between the 2023 and 2024 tests. This suggests prolonged periods of inactivity rather than regular driving. Such low mileage can mask wear on components that typically degrade with use, such as suspension bushes, coil springs, and drivetrain seals, which may have deteriorated due to age rather than mileage. Conversely, it also raises questions about whether the vehicle has been stored properly, potentially exposing it to moisture, corrosion, or pest damage. Given the lack of MOT advisories, a prospective buyer should prioritise an inspection of high-wear areas that are not directly tested during an MOT but are critical for structural integrity and safety. Focus on the suspension—particularly the condition of the rear coil springs and bushes, which are prone to cracking or degradation in a vehicle of this age—alongside the front and rear wheel bearings for excessive play or noise. The brake system, though not flagged, warrants scrutiny: check for uneven disc wear, binding calipers, or corrosion on the brake lines, as these issues can develop silently. Structural integrity is another concern; inspect the sills, wheel arches, and underbody for corrosion, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate rust formation. Finally, verify the condition of the engine bay seals and sump, as oil leaks or moisture ingress could have occurred during periods of disuse.
