2004 Vauxhall Corsa SXI 16V 1.2L Petrol · HJZ 1274

The Vauxhall Corsa SXI has demonstrated a stable roadworthiness trend over the past three years, with the most recent MOT in March 2023 at 121,395 miles passing without any defects. This consistency suggests the vehicle has been maintained to meet basic legal standards, though the absence of advisories or minor faults in the latest test raises questions about whether routine servicing—beyond MOT compliance—has been prioritised. The sole failure in December 2021 at 116,927 miles was administrative, with no technical defects recorded, indicating the car’s core systems were deemed roadworthy at the time. However, the gap of nearly two years since the last MOT (as of July 2026) means critical wear items—such as suspension components, brake fluid condition, or tyre integrity—could now be beyond their optimal service intervals. The Corsa’s mileage accumulation has been exceptionally low for its age, averaging just over 5,500 miles per year since 2021. This suggests either infrequent use or prolonged periods of inactivity, which can exacerbate issues like seized bearings, degraded rubber seals, or corrosion in less-accessible areas. The 4,352-mile jump between the failed test in December 2021 (116,927 miles) and the subsequent pass (117,043 miles) is unusually small, hinting at minimal movement during that period. Without further service records, it’s impossible to confirm if the car has been stored or driven sparingly, but such low mileage increases the risk of hidden mechanical stiffness or fluid degradation over time. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer should focus their inspection on components less likely to be caught by the tester but critical for long-term reliability. Check the suspension for worn bushes, degraded coil springs, or uneven tyre wear, as these are common in lightly used vehicles where alignment may have drifted. Inspect the brake system thoroughly—look for binding calipers, uneven disc thickness, or fluid leaks, since the MOT only tests functionality, not component condition. Structural integrity is another concern; despite no rust advisories, check wheel arches, sills, and underbody for concealed corrosion, especially if the car has spent time in damp conditions. Finally, verify fluid levels and condition—power steering, brake, and coolant—since stagnation can lead to failure in systems that may not have been exercised regularly.
